Social and Ethics Committee (SEC) workshop
This workshop is tailored for individuals serving on governing bodies, social and ethics committees, or those aspiring to do so. It is also valuable for managers responsible for reporting to the SEC or individuals invited to SEC meetings.
The SEC workshop focuses on the roles and responsibilities of SECs and best practices for running an effective SEC.
During the workshop, the following themes will be introduced and explored:
- The concept of corporate governance
- The governance of ethics
- The governance of corporate citizenship
- The statutory mandate of SECs
- Leading practice in running an effective SEC, including:

- Purpose and role of SEC
- Terms of Reference
- Monitoring and reporting framework
- Relationship with other governing body committees
- Membership
- Meetings
- Workplan
- Reporting to the governing body and the annual general meeting
The workshop can either be presented in a half-day or a full-day format.
After successfully completing the EOCP and the practical assignment, participants are awarded accreditation by the Stellenbosch Business School (SBS) and TEI as Certified Ethics Officers.
In addition, all newly certified Ethics Officers receive public recognition on TEI’s website and are automatically enrolled as TEI Supporters, with their first year of subscription fees covered.
