EO 183 – Jeff John Kabondo
African Institute of Corporate Citizenship
Governance Program Coordinator
Why did you attend the programme?
I attended the programme in order to acquire knowledge and skills for promoting ethics at AICC and its partner and member organisations. Under the BAAC programme we anticipated to facilitate ethics awareness programs and as coordinator of the program I needed to gain some comptence in the subject matter.
How did the programme benefit you personally?
I am now confident to articulate on issues related to ethics in organisations. I learn a lot and as a person I appreciate the importance of ethics in my life more than before. I also made friends and expanded my networking space during the training. The practicum needed special attention despite my other work commitments. Beyond this, a lot of things that I thought would be easy turned out differently and I had to deal with more stressful situations. This was a learning opportunity to understand that there is a lot that needs to be done in building an ethical culture in organisations. It is not always simple and straight forward.
How is it benefitting your company?
It will benefit the organisation as this is the first time that AICC has someone certified as Ethics Officer who can now coordinate activities related to ethics with the required competence and confidence. Internally, AICC needs to develop structures and systems that shall enhance ethics within it work environments and operations. I am also hoping that AICC can now start thinking of developing new programes to advance ethics from different dimensions for both the public and private sector as Malawi engages in diverse economic activities that have a huge bearing on ethics.
