EO 166 – Linda Shako
Kenya Ports Authority
Senior Human Resources Officer
Why did you attend the Ethics Officer Certification Programme?
Ethics helps to create a sense of right and wrong in the organisations and when all else fails, it is the ethics that may stop organisations from harming the society or environment. Attending this course was an effective means of providing me with a flavor of moral and ethical conduct in the workplace, something that would help me in decision-making by recognising ethical issues when they arise and deal with them in a systematic manner. I was sponsored by the Authority for capacity building of ethics officers who would help instill a good sense of ethical conduct in KPA employees and help in imparting the knowledge in a classroom situation.
How did the programme benefit you personally?
The course has enriched my understanding of ethical conduct in the workplace and helped me in decision-making. It has helped me to improve the trust in relationships between individuals and groups, enabled me apply greater consistency in standards maintained in the office.
How is it benefitting your company?
Ethics helps in maintaining a moral course in the organisation. The awareness created so far in the organisation has led to employees reporting and highlighting various malpractices in the organisation through the Ethics and Integrity Office, something that was rare in the past. As employees cultivate these ethics within themselves, then they get the assurance of working in an organisation that will not fall prey to deceptive practices and fraudulent processes. It helps in building the image of the Authority.
Interested individuals are welcome to contact me for more information of my expereince on the programme.
