Collective Action project shines at Premier’s Service Excellence Awards

Media announcement released 5 March 2018

The Ethics Institute is proud to announce that our Gauteng Municipal Integrity Project has won the gold award in the Integrity Category of the Premier’s Service Excellence Awards.

The five-year project aims to assist Gauteng municipalities with strengthening their integrity management capacity. It is a partnership between the Gauteng Provincial Government, nine Gauteng municipalities and The Ethics Institute, and funding is provided by the Siemens Integrity Initiative. As such, it is an excellent example of a Collective Action making an impact.

One of the highlights of the project is the training of more than 750 people, including 40 ethics officers, 18 ethics trainers, 320 councillors, and 350 officials. Furthermore, the Ethics Risk Assessments and Ethics Management Maturity Assessments have been finalised in most municipalities. The remaining two years of the project will involve the review of ethics and anti-corruption strategies and policies, and engaging the relevant committee structures that will provide oversight of organisational integrity as required by the Local Government Anti-Corruption Strategy.

We are honoured to be a part of this partnership and acknowledge that the receipt of this award only increases the responsibility to truly institutionalise ethics management into Gauteng municipalities.

The announcement was made at a gala event held at Time Square in Pretoria on 28 February 2018. Kris Dobie and Thobile Madonsela, from The Ethics Institute, received the award on behalf of the project.
